This blog post breaks down my top tips for learning Korean—and will help you understand the best way to approach the language!

1. Learn to read Hangul

2. Learn Korean verbs (especially 하다)

3. Learn endings to add meaning to your sentences

4. Speak and don’t be afraid to make mistakes

5. Practice by texting friends or by joining my Daily Korean program

Now let me break it down for you ⬇️

1. Learn to read Hangul (한글).

This is the foundation of everything. Hangul might look unfamiliar at first, but it’s one of the most logical writing systems in the world. Once you understand the structure, reading and pronunciation become so much easier.

2. Familiarize yourself with verbs—especially 하다.

Verbs are the heart of every Korean sentence—so learning the most common ones is a must.

Start with 하다 (to do), because it’s used in so many everyday verbs: 공부하다 (to study), 청소하다 (to clean), 운동하다 (to exercise), and more.

Getting comfortable with 하다 verbs gives you a huge head start in expressing yourself clearly and confidently.

3. Learn endings to add meaning to your sentences.

Korean is all about verb endings. They help you express tense, mood, politeness, and more. Start with basics like -아요/어요, -고 싶어요 (want to), -고 있어요 (currently doing), and -았어요/었어요 (past tense). This is how your Korean becomes real and conversational.

4. Speak and don’t be afraid to make mistakes.

The only way to truly get better is to use the language. Speak out loud, talk to yourself, or practice with a friend. Mistakes are a natural (and necessary!) part of the learning process. Be bold and keep going—you’re learning more than you think.
